MentalDots

A dot is often synonymous with a full stop, but there are no full stops in life. Life is interjected by pauses that open up new avenues, whether through challenge or growth. Change is inevitable. When we are stuck in life, it seems like we are finished. Exploring and learning to deal with that "I am stuck" feeling and coming out of it with happiness and honor is my vision and aim for my clientele. MentalDots is a platform for those in need of mental health care or services. It is meant to offer support and help those in need to regulate themselves and function at their optimal level. In August 2019, I was diagnosed with a Spinal Cord Compression at the cervical level, due to which I could not even hold a glass of water and was advised to bed rest for weeks that became months. This incident marked a crucial shift in the gravity of my life. Work and social life were on hold indefinitely. Worried about my future, fearful about spine surgery, mourning the loss of my work, sadness and anger towards this unwelcomed guest in my life, I did feel hopeless. I passionately worked with children with special needs, and in therapy, we would figure out ways to convert those shortcomings into our strengths. Drawing on this belief, I knew I couldn't give up. I had to figure a way out of this condition. That is when I started searching actively for motivation. I started looking for small successes, efforts, achievements, things to feel gratitude for that day. MentalDots was born from the most painful days of bedrest and emotional unrest. I launched the MentalDots Instagram page on September 4, 2019. The page started as a personal ray of hope and a channel to transfer my energy. But now, it has transformed into a mental health tool and support system for others who visit the page. Whether in need of support or simply as means for well-being and engagement, MentalDots is available for you.

Letter of Hope

Hello you wonderful being,

Let me start by asking - How are you today?

I closely understand the challenges of the current challenging times—that sometimes sinking feeling of being lost and confused. That desperate attempt to hold onto the falling pieces of life. Seeking that one voice or guidance to save us, support us and protect us. I hope this letter helps you find a piece of the support or guidance that you may be looking for.

Allow me also, to say, I am here for you.

Before you read ahead, let's do a quick self-care check.

  - Take 3 deep breaths
  - Relax those shoulders and face muscles
  - Pat yourself for managing and coping so far

I realise that things may not always go as planned and that each day may be getting harder than the previous. You seem to not always have full control over your thoughts and are perhaps trying your level best to work through or get rid of those negative thoughts. That can be extremely daunting and sometimes take on compulsive or obsessive patterns to a point where you are overwhelmed and lost.

What if I tell you that there are ways to get your life back in control and seek hope to eliminate these negative thoughts patterns.

Yes. YOU have the power to do that!

We do things that make us happy.

Whether it's a job, a relationship, a hobby, social work, business, etc. So, the eventual goal is to be in this optimum state of happiness, correct?

How do we become happy and stay in peace with ourselves?

Here's a wonderful cliché we have all heard - "Happiness is an inside job". My experience and work has taught me that this adage is very true!

During my tough times I searched everywhere; all the external factors, relationships etc. to seek happiness; and guess what? Nothing worked. I learnt this the hard way. And I want to use this counselling platform to help you cut to the chase and cope with your current challenges better, faster and smoother.

Small steps everyday will help you take big leaps.

Learning to "live in the moment" is a key element. I hope with the aid of the calming cards and other elements in the Soch box, you are able to acquire the skills that will help overcome your concerns.

Wishing you strength and support through the journey of life,
