FAQs

When do I need to seek out a therapist?

The reason to prioritize therapy could vary from simply seeking a non-judgemental understanding or opening to a new perspective about the concerns and problems areas of life. Here are some ways to identify the need of counseling:

I] If the concern has been lingering for more than three-six months and there seems to be no way of getting out of it.

II] If the concern has stopped you from growing or affecting your productivity in either social, personal or professional areas of life.

III] If the impact of the concern is intensifying or if it is frequently occurring.

How do I know if a therapist is a right fit for me?

It's fantastic if you connect with the first therapist you meet. But if you don't, that's perfectly okay. Every therapist has a unique way of working—their own understanding and personality might work or might not work for you. So give yourself and the therapist at least three- four sessions to understand each other and then speak to the therapist if something doesn't work out.

What should I expect in the first session of therapy?

Therapy is not a place for quick fixed or instant solutions. So one needs to understand that the therapist will help you derive the solution and not give you one since you are the expert of your life. In the first session, the therapist notes your history and essential information and understands your background to get to know you better. Then, one can take this opportunity to ask the therapist any of their concerns. My therapy sessions usually last for 60 mins. Towards the end of the session, you can schedule days, timings and frequency for future sessions with your therapist.

How is talking to a therapist beneficial?

A trained therapist remains non-judgemental and follows the code of confidentiality. It is the therapist's job to create a space for you to pour your heart out without having a fear of being judged. When you have communicated with a therapist, they help you get insights or new perspectives towards the concerned area or situation. They guide you through a series of questions or conversations that would help you derive a solution.

How long do I have to commit to therapy?

There isn't a one fit for all solution. The duration might differ depending on the kind of concern and its impact on your life. The best way to understand this would be by discussing it with your therapist after undergoing three to four sessions.

How many times do I have to take therapy sessions in a week?

It varies from person to person and based on the intensity of concern impacting your life. It would be ideal to discuss it with your therapist. Sometimes the therapist might see you twice a week in the start and gradually reduce the sessions to once a week and then once in 15 days, depending on the progress.
